Okay, let's just get the painful part out of the way.  WHAAAAAAT THEEEEEEE FUUUUUUUCK WAS THAT??!??!?!!!  When did the coach for the Mizzou Tigers decide to shove Chase Daniel's head up his ass?  What the hell happened??  ARGH!!!  Okay, it was clear from the first half that OK was a better team--their defense was awesome, but their offense was on par with MOs, and we were holding our own.  We even managed to tie up the game 14-14 just before the half with probably the most beautiful 2-pt conversion ever seen (it was like butter, man).  And then... and then... WHAAAAAT THEEEEEE FUUUUUUUUCK?????  What, did OK erect a force field barrier across the endzone?!  @*#@#!  Do you know how many times MO was INCHES from goal???  Do you???  I don't!  I lost count!  Know how many times they got through on a rush?  ZERO.  It was like they were bouncing off.  And then, after 3 failed rush attempts, in the 4th quarter, at 4th and inches, they decide to KICK!  *$(@#$)%*(#(*@#)Q$*(&()!*@#$&)(#*$_$!!!!!!!!!!  You do not KICK when you are down TWO touchdowns in the FOURTH #*$#($& QUARTER!  You hike the ball, pick up the QB, and THROW HIS SORRY ASS INTO THE END ZONE (and pray he doesn't bounce off of the force field).

*sigh*  Ah well, BCS rankings come out tomorrow.  Maybe they'll still make a bowl game (yeeeaaaah).

Okay, sorry, had to get that off my chest.  On to happier topics!

IAN'S BIRTHDAY ROCKED!  Okay, so technically his birthday is Dec. 24th, but you try celebrating someone's birthday other than Jesus or Mithras and watch what happens.  So we did it this weekend.  Originally, only my mom & Gigi were going to come on Saturday, and we were going to have it on Sunday.  But then B's mom & husband call (at, like, 10am Saturday) to let us know that their plans have changed, they're going to a memorial service that's already 3/4 of the way to our house, and were wondering if they could come by to have dinner and drop off their present.  Well, we did some quick re-engineering and just had the party on Saturday once everyone was here.  Much fun was had.  Ian totally had his cute on, too--I swear, he was doing it on purpose.  He got a homemade knitted winter set from me, and a Spongebob comforter set from Brian (not my fault, Ian asked specifically and would not be dissuaded, and cripes, it's not like he asked for a tattoo or something, pick your battles, right?).  Mom got him a cute footie jammie, some nice new shoes *needed*, and a psycho candy toy that they boys have been fighting over nonstop since they received it and is going in the trash on the first opportunity.  B's mom & husband got him a little scooter like Alex has, and they've been scootering around the house ever since.  Very cute.  We had cheeseburgers, french fries (which, finally, at long last, RAWKED ALL OVER!!), and chocolate cake with vanilla icing.  All homemade, cause he's not old enough to know to ask for the boxed stuff yet (like I do).

In AeroGarden news, I've got plantlets!  (No, not platelets, although yes, I've got those, too.)  I do find it really disconcerting, though, that I've got literally nothing to do.  I keep going over and checking on things, but no, it's fine, it clearly doesn't need me.  It's got automatic light timers and water filtration systems and slow-release nutrient capsules; I am clearly superfluous--like a watchmaker-god or something.  Kind of creepy, really, and yet cool--oh so cool.  And the extra light is really helpful, too.

Coming from a grown up with a December birthday, you are freakin' awesome for giving him an early party. There's nothing like getting a "Happy Birthday/Merry Christmas" present and knowing that your sibling got two. Doesn't seem like a big deal as a grown up, but it was *devastating* when I was a kid.

Good call! :)

Man, I'm glad to get some validation on this. We've really been struggling with what to do about Ian's birthday. It's been less significant the past two years, as he was too young to understand, but this year he was definitely getting it. We kicked around doing an "un-birthday" in June or something, but that just felt too artificial to me. I hope this style works in the long run. It's also nice to have a definite line in the sand for when xmas can start at our house (i.e., no xmas at all until after Ian's birthday party).

Christmas and Hanukkah don't start until the day after Thanksgiving in our house. It's a steadfast rule.

I think that this is a great idea, also, because his actual birthday will be immediate family and more intimate. Kind of a public birthday and a private one. He absolutely deserves that, right? :)
