Got it from the
beantree!
Amazon or brick and mortar?
Unfair! I'm not even sure we have a reasonable "brick & mortar" store here (does Books-a-Million count?). Honestly, I love to browse, and patronize local bookstores (esp. small, locally-owned ones), but Amazon et. al. offers me the ability to buy small run and hard-to-get books that I would never find locally, thereby supporting small authors (and ya know, I'm just doing this all the time, right).
Bookmark or dogear?
Bookmark. Of course, in our house, just about anything counts as a bookmark: a pencil, a piece of junk mail, another book... we're probably doing as much harm to the book with this practice as we would be dogearing them. And, oddly, I don't think we own one single actual bookmark...
Alphabetize by author or alphebetize by title or random?
Vaguely categorized by subject; some of them are even alphabetized (srsly). One good friend of mine actually catalogues using the LOC # (but then, I think he's a bit OCD).
Keep, throw away, or sell?
Give away. Never throw away, rarely keep (or we'd have no room for furniture).
Keep dustjacket or toss it?
Don't care. If it comes off, I'm not heartbroken.
Read with dustjacket or remove it?
Whatev.
Short story or novel?
Novel. I agree with
beantree here, short stories leave me wanting. And the worst? When you don't realize that it's a short story collection, so you think you've just finished a chapter and turn the page to keep going, and you're like "Huh? WTF?"
Collection (short stories by same author) or anthology (short stories by different authors)?
Anthology. No particular reason.
Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
HP! Honestly, I didn't like the Lemony Snicket books. I didn't make it past the first one, and didn't enjoy it one bit.
Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
Chapter breaks. This allows me to keep reading far beyond any reasonable time.
“It was a dark and stormy night“ or “Once upon a time“?
Lame. Up there with "Since the beginning of time/history/mankind/etc., man has pondered/questioned/wondered/asked/inqui red/thought about/argued/believed/etc. etc. etc."
Buy or Borrow?
Borrow.
New or used?
Used.
Buying choice: book reviews, recommendation or browse?
Recommendations.
Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
Tidy ending. I think I'm the only person in existence who really liked the epilogue in the HP series.
Morning reading, afternoon reading or nighttime reading?
Nighttime--with knitting on me lap.
Standalone or series?
Series. I like standalones fine, but I like how, if you enjoy a series, it makes it soooo easy to decide what to read next!
Favourite series?
Wow, that's tough. I guess, if Pratchett's "Discworld" books could be construed as a series (there is something of a timeline to them), then those would be my favorites. Or his "Tiffany" books, which are unambiguously serial in nature. Other than that? Probably the Sandman series of graphic novels. Oh, and the Saga of the Seven Suns (which had just better be nearly finished now...)
Favourite book of which nobody else has heard?
"Don't Care High". Total fluff-ball young-adult reading, but soooo funny.
Favourite books read last year?
"The Omnivore's Dilemma" (jedimomma waits with baited breath for his newest effort to come out!)
Favourite books of all time?
What an absurdly unfair question... Lessee... Ender's Game, anything from Terry Pratchett (literally), The Cryptonomicon, Neverwhere, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Dune, um... Shoot, who knows?
